Launched in 2015, the Fall Classic quickly became one of the marquee events at American Legion Country Club. Known as a late-season showdown, it offered golfers one final chance to compete for a major title before the close of the year.
For nearly a decade, the format was an 18-hole two-man better ball event, with flighting determined by scores on nine randomly chosen holes. This structure kept competition balanced and pressure high, producing champions whose names are now etched into club history.
In 2024, the Fall Classic entered a new era — expanding into a 2-day event. Saturday remains a traditional Better Ball round, but Sunday now features a club-favorite 18-hole Shootout, scramble style, adding more excitement, strategy, and opportunities for dramatic finishes. The change has made the Fall Classic not only a test of skill but also a celebration of fall golf and camaraderie at ALCC.
